Networking Information

Notre Dame Club of Chicago Networking

The Networking Committee is Chaired by Linda Weaver, '87L. The Committee has several Networking subgroups that focus on Networking in specific industry, interest or geographical areas. We are also beginning a few new initiatives. The different subgroups are listed below. To get involved please contact Michele Cahill, '07 at ndclubadmin@earthlink.net

The CREATE Network (Construction & Real Estate)

The CREATE group has a three-pronged approach to networking:

  • I. It has two Executive Seminars a year, in the spring and in the fall, which feature high profile speakers and projects of interest to alums in the construction and real estate industries. These are held at the Metropolitan Club in the Sears Tower.
  • II. In addition, CREATE has 1-2 general networking sessions at various times of the year which tend to be more educational, where those in these industries can meet each other and share their knowledge and practical experience on general topics of interest to a broader audience.
  • III. ND CREATE Alliances meets at 7:30 a.m. This group is led by Mary O'Toole, O'Toole Architects, Inc. and is for those interested in forming a more cohesive and mutually beneficial working relationship with other alums. Members give presentations to the group in their particular areas of expertise or find speakers to discuss topics of interest to the group on a more informal and regular basis. Those who attend this meeting should have an interest in attending on a regular basis.

ATTORNEY NETWORK

The Attorney Network functions as a professional and social group for Chicago area alumni and law students. The Network gives members opportunities to meet attorneys and share information pertaining to their respective areas of law, for employment opportunities or advancement and for cross-referrals to members in their respective areas of expertise. To further the Network's objectives, we have conducted presentations for CLE credit and hosted Happy Hours at the Emerald Club and Rivers Restaurant. We also have conducted a joint networking event with the ND EMBA program at the Metropolitan Club in the Willis Tower.

Should you want to become involved by being on the Core Committee for the Attorney Network, please contact Michele Cahill, Club Director, ndclubadmin@earthlink.net.

The Business Network

The Business Network supports the mission of the Notre Dame Club of Chicago through a variety of programs and events that foster and encourage a commitment to excellence in a lifelong relationship among Club Members in the business community.
  • The Irish Entrepreneurs --This group normally meets every first Thursday of the Month, from 730am to 900am St. Peters Church (110 W Madison, Chicago) basement meeting room. (cost: $5 for church donation). Past meetings have included discussions of raising capital, both equity and debt, organizing a business and marketing plans and general discussions for individual businesses. Come meet interesting entrepreneurs, bring a relevant business topic or just participate in the discussion.

North by Northwest Regional Networking

The goal of this network is for ND alumni, family, friends and fans to meet both professionally and socially in the North and Northwestern suburbs. Meetings of this lively and congenial group are currently held from 6:30-8:00 pm, four times a year, and alternate between Notre Dame High School in Niles and Alexian Brothers Corporation in Arlington Heights. They have speakers in addition to networking at their meetings. Speakers have included: Dean Leo Burke, MBA graduate program at Notre Dame, Human Resource managers, Directors of Not for Profits.

NON-PROFIT NETWORK

This is another new initiative of The Notre Dame Club of Chicago. It is another way the Club attempts to help its alumni and friends of the University.

GOALS of the ND Non-Profit Network:
  • To create a network where non-profit professionals can share mutually beneficial information,
  • To create a concrete mechanism for alumni searching for jobs to meet mentors and other professionals in the non-profit sector,
  • To create a venue for alumni involved in non-profit organizations to socialize with and learn from each other,
  • To create a network to help our non-profits find Board members, volunteers and great ND alumni employees,
  • To sponsor educational programs and events that would benefit a number of our non-profit professionals but would be too costly for just one person,
  • To explore ways to help and support our young alumni who commit to a year or two of volunteer service after graduation (e.g. defer club dues until one year after termination from volunteer service ends, special pricing to Club events for our volunteers who are Club members and enrolled in the non-profit network.)
WHO would profit directly from joining the non-profit network:
  • Club members who work for or are interested in working for non-profit organizations
  • Club members who are on the boards of non-profit
WHO would profit, in addition:
  • Those we seek to help
  • Our young alums looking for jobs in the Non-Profit sector
  • Our Non-Profits looking for board members
  • Our Non-Profits looking for volunteers
If you are interested in being on the Core Committee for this venture, please contact the Notre Dame Club of Chicago's Director, Michele Cahill, '07 at ndclubadmin@earthlink.net or (312) 922-4663.

Ultimate Networking

Ultimate Networking seeks to bring programs to the Notre Dame Club members and Notre Dame Alumni highlighting the fact that even though we are a business community, we are not JUST a business community. We are a community of faith engaged in business. This group seeks to develop programs and events for all alumni and Club members that help them develop professionally and personally in accord with the ideals, ethics and faith upon which the University of Notre Dame was founded. In particular, it will endeavor to bring programs focusing on principles that will help ND alumni lead meaningful and fulfilling lives whether they are leading their businesses, their communities, their families or their churches. Programs will be led by recognized leaders of the Notre Dame community across all professions and walks of life.

The Notre Dame Club of Chicago and The University of Notre Dame are here to help!

Irish Online
The University's Career Center works with Alumni who are looking for employment all over the country. To search the career opportunities available, click here. To reach the University, contact the Career & Placement Services at (574) 631-4055.

Irish Online is also a great resource for finding other ND alums. You have access to the entire alumni database which allows you to search for ND alums in a certain geographical area that work in a certain industry or work for a certain company. The University Career Center can help you get more familiar with that process as well.

ONWARD
The Alumni Association, the Career Center, Mendoza College of Business and ND Law School have recently collaborated to create a comprehensive career and networking web program called ONWARD: Alumni Career Development.

The ONWARD website provides a variety of tools for job seekers, as well as those alumni who are looking to network with other alumni. The site includes job postings, seminars and webinars on various career topics, links to useful articles, and access to the alumni mentor program.
